Welcome to Becoming Enriched, a new weekly newsletter about making small changes – to your lifestyle and your finances – to live life more fully.
During my 20+ years owning a financial planning firm, I helped many clients create a “Master Finance and Estate Planning Binder.” I recently revised and expanded the document, and it is available to you at no charge.
It will be sent when you sign up for my monthly newsletter, which includes articles I write, excerpts from my upcoming book Becoming Enriched, and guest articles. The newsletter is free, I will not share your email address, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
If you’re a financial advisor, feel free to use the “Master Financial and Estate Planning Binder” document with your clients. Otherwise, use it for yourself or share it with your family and friends. When creating the document, you can choose to use a 3-ring binder or a digital file. Either way, this resource will help you get organized and provide peace of mind for the future.
The Benefits of a Master Financial and Estate Planning Binder:
It will simplify the estate management for your loved ones in the event of your death or disability.
If your spouse or partner becomes disabled or dies first, it will help you manage the myriad (and often overwhelming) tasks alone.
It facilitates organization; everything is in one place.
It encourages meaningful discussions with family members so you can convey your wishes.
It clarifies what still needs to be done.
You will feel “peace of mind” and organized for the future.
Brief Overview
The following financial and estate planning information will be included in the binder:
1. Net Worth Statement
2. Investment and Bank Statements
3. Insurance Statements
4. Legal Documents
5. Important Documents
6. Taxes
7. Cash Flow
8. Digital Assets
9. Location and Home Maintenance
10. Miscellaneous
If you choose to create a 3-ring binder, purchase a 2- or 3-inch binder and a set of 10 or more dividers.
If you choose to create a digital file (on a computer, iPad, or tablet), store the information on a thumb drive to mitigate the risk of loss. Tell your loved ones where the thumb drive is stored, and share with them any passwords needed for accessing the information on the thumb drive.
Work through the ten sections at your own pace. You can skip sections requiring additional time and return to them later. This will help you see progress quickly.
I sold my financial planning firm and retired from serving clients in late 2021. Since then, I have been writing within the financial industry, and working on my second book. Many of my clients became close friends, so we are still in touch. They have told me they keep their binders up-to-date, even though their current advisor does not provide this service.
Creating a “Master Financial and Estate Planning Binder” provides value for many years.
